"The ZOA Middle East Report" radio show for May 14 2008: It was 60 years ago today -- May 14, 1948 -- that David Ben-Gurion declared Israel's Independence. We look back on that day with two men who experienced it: Mordecai Gerson and Al Shapiro. Meanwhile, another Middle East country -- Lebanon -- seems to be losing its independence because of Hezballah, Syria and Iran. Claudia Rosett, journalist-in-residence with the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, explains the situation. Also, we mark the birthday of the Father of Zionism, Theodor Herzl, with some of his words of wisdom read by voice actor Sid Karp.

WEEKLY PUBLIC RALLY
Please plan to join ZOA on Fridays from 12 noon to 1 p.m., when we demonstrate in support of Israel on 15th Street, north of Locust Street. We rally there every week across the street from a large anti-Israel group that demonstrates against Israel at that time. ZOA members and passersby display American and Israeli flags as well as signs with pro-Israel slogans. We also distribute pro-Israel flyers.
